Why Steal Dogs

I Steal Dogs

Back in my college days I had a dog. A fun loving, smart golden lab named “Dusty”.

He and I were very much alike so we got along great. We both loved to go out and have fun!

We’d take walks a lot. He liked it when pretty girls would say how cute he was. I was jealous.

He loved to fetch the tennis ball, catch snowballs, stick his face into the hose water for a drink, and he’d chase laser lights with a passion. (I’m a notorious bright shiny object chaser too!)

I miss that dog.

He’d sleep on my lap in the LazyBoy recliner. That’s probably why my knees are shot now! I’d curl up on the floor with him after coming home drunk. Then I’d tell him all my lady problems. He was a good listener. Dusty never said “I told you so”, or gave advice, he just listened.

I miss that dog.

So now, I steal other people’s dogs. Their cats too.

Even if I don’t like the people that much, I love to go to the homes of pet owners.

Petting and playing with their animals is therapeutic.

Scientists say it releases the feel-good chemical oxytocin.
I just know it makes me happy!

It feels good and its fun. They never judge. They like to play
and they like to just sit and hang out with you too.

What could be better?

My good friend has both a dog and 2 kittens.

Mac is a sweet, lovable, playful retriever, and then there’s two fluff-ball kitties; Maine Coon I believe.

Mac came from a bad home. He was scrawny, sick, and really a mess when she took him in. Now he’s a happy, playful boy. He treats the kittens well too.

The adorable kittens love to play and meow for your attention. Mac will be napping on the couch and those two rascals kitties will pop up and start messing with him. He’s so pleasant and patient.

Mac just lets them play it out until they get bored and then race off for reasons only cats know.

My son has my favorite cat, Baz.

Baz is two’ish, black and white, and loads of attentive fun. Always looks like he’s wearing a tuxedo. He’s more like a dog than a cat. He greets you at the door and follows you around. You throw his favorite crinkly mouse toy and he brings it right back.

I love that cat!

Cats and dogs are great for me. Fun, de-stressing, therapeutic healers. I never have to wonder with them.

People? Not so much.
They get moody, indecisive, self-serving, weird.

You can always count on cats and dogs though.

I can’t have any with my living situation, and since it would be cruel to steal someone’s beloved pet, I just steal the love out of other people’s dogs and cats whenever I can.

There’s a Cockatiel in my house. He’s amusing, but there’s so much more love in touching dogs and cats. Furry friends are definitely my favorite.

Are you lonely? Need to de-stress.? Need more love in your life?

Get a dog or a cat. Rescue one if you can. Then invite me over.

Can’t own? Try to get out and visit them in their owner’s homes. (You can ignore the owners if you wish. Tell them I said it’s OK… they’ll understand.)

C’mon…surely you’ve gone to someone’s home and spent more time playing and talking to the dog than the host? Is that just me?

Love animals…

Maybe pet sitting would be a good extra income job for you?

Dog walking?

(Skip the pooper-scooper cleanup job…that’s no fun.)

Maybe that’s why I don’t own a dog?

Yes, that’s probably it. Elder hates to clean up dog poop.

Listen, loneliness is a big deal. Among all ages. We’re more connected now via electronic devices than humans have been at any other point in history. Yet, we’re feeling more isolated.

Elder and I address this important issue in a book that will be out soon. We’ll talk about 29 other modern ways to banish loneliness from your life forever. Stay tuned!
